Hyperreal Paintings by Denis Peterson

Denis Peterson - BFA, MFA Painting, Pratt Teaching Fellowship. Worked with the prestigious President Wilkerson Pratt to redesign the urban campus during a time of school’s burgeoning growth. Denis was spraying acrylic paints in airbrushes at a time when it was unheard of. His early New Realism paintings of large figurative works were distinguished by “cropping” the picture frame as an aesthetic perversion of photography. It was a novel approach, now common in the newer figurative photorealist paintings. While working as a commercial artist in NYC, his paintings were exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum,in universities, and at several galleries. He later left the art field, but returned years later to pioneer a new school of painting as a departure from Photorealism called Hyperrealism, breaking once again from the more formalistic conventions of traditional painting. Now considered a fully-fledged ligitimate school of painting, Hyperrealism challenges the distinction between perception and illusion. As a counter culture school of painting, Hyperrealism incorporates an existential frame of reference as an altered reality. Thematically, his provocative hyperrealist depictions relate to political and cultural deviations of societal decadence, its enigmatic imagery, and the aftermath of its tragic, ideological consequences. They confront the corrupted human condition in a convincing illusion of reality, or hyperreality. Denis has exhibited his Hyperrealism paintings in colleges, galleries and public museums. His work can be found in private and public collections throughout the United States. Hyperrealism paintings by Denis Peterson are sought after by art collectors worldwide.

Contudo, gosto do hiperrealismo. O que sobretudo me espanta é a paciência, a técnica e o donínio do desenho.
